Melbourne Lawn Mowing Tips

Today’s post will shed more light on a very simple task – charging up your lawn tractor’s battery. Similarly to a car battery, it is needed to supply power for a number of functions with the most noteworthy power-consuming device being the engine. Even if it sounds like something extremely easy to do, why not have a look at the most effective and safest method to power up your battery?

And by ‘energy’ I mean actual electricity here, rather than elbow grease – even if we are all aware that both are necessary to ensure the smooth lawn mowing at your Melbourne property. The battery used by your ride-on mower is basically a small-scale version of the standard 12 volt box-shaped device found in any car. When your battery is flat (low on power), it should be charged again. Unfortunately, this is not the case if your battery is completely ‘dead’ or it’s been frozen.

I already mentioned the similarity between your lawn tractor’s battery and that of a car. That’s why you can use a regular car battery charger in order to bring the little box back to life every time it has run out of power. The shortest time you’ll need to fully charge your battery would be about one hour – that’s if you have a charger with 10amp capacity, and if it’s less – you’ll obviously need some more time. Logically, it will take roughly 2 hours if you’re charging at a 5amp rate.
Good news is that you don’t have to take the battery out of your lawn mowing equipment. Keep in mind that you need the charging unit set to work at 12V. Safety first – it should be switched off and not connected to a power outlet at the moment you start setting up the whole process. Once you’ve checked that, you may proceed and connect the charger’s cables to the relevant mower battery terminals. You’ll notice the distinct red and black colours of each of the two cables – the red one is for the positive terminal, while the black means negative.

Now, you’ll just have to wait for the required time to pass and your tractor’s battery will be again up and running. Note that you have to turn off/unplug the charger first and then disconnect the cables from the battery terminals. Well, that should be it!
